Chilling story

Me again, lol... Sorry to keep clogging up the group! 🙈 I'm happy to wait a few days before posting more, if admin would prefer that - just ask, if so!

I just remembered that for about a month after my dad died back in 2017, the heavy door to his old bedroom (which literally NEVER opens by itself) would swing all the way open. Not just slightly ajar - wide open. Every time we shut it, it'd open by itself. Weirdly, even though the door usually made a lot of noise whenever it was moved, we never heard a sound. There was no draft or anything else causing it, either.

I also heard several loud coughs, which sounded exactly like dad. It would always happen whenever I was home alone, although others said that they heard it too when they were by themselves.

As well as this, I'd smell Golden Virginia tobacco and Old Spice aftershave - both smells which remind me of my dad. No one else in the house used these products apart from him.

Now, the smells I can put down to an overactive imagination/grief... But the door and the coughing, I cannot explain! It all randomly stopped about 4 weeks after he died, and funnily enough, the day after his funeral (we had to wait longer than usual to bury him due to it being close to Christmas).

Maybe he was letting us know that he wanted to be laid to rest? Who knows... Again, I should point out that I'm an atheist, so I believe that once we die, that's it; yet all of these experiences definitely make me wonder whether there might be more to it!

I still don't believe in heaven or hell or anything like that, but perhaps an afterlife exists in some other form...
