My Horror Story

I’m a paramedic for just over 29 years and about 2 years ago I transferred stations because they were short staffed at the location I’m at now. The weekend prior to my arrival, one of my fellow paramedics was killed in a car accident driving home from work.

He was the 3rd person in this station who had died. One from a motorcycle accident and the 2nd sadly took his own life. The bunk rooms, kitchen, dayroom and full bathroom are upstairs. I work a 24 hour shift. I don’t sleep well while on duty because I’m always anticipating getting up for a call.

Anyhow, a couple shifts after I started at that station we got back from a call around 2 am. I decided to go sit on the recliner in the day room and prop my legs up instead of laying in my bunk. As I sat there in the dark dosing off I heard the downstairs door open and shut, followed by the sound of light footsteps coming up the stairs.

My Horror Story

It sounded unusually quiet because the stairs are wooden and there is hard wood floor throughout the upstairs. A minute later I heard the water cooler go off as if someone was filling their bottle and then a couple more footsteps. I assumed it was one of the other crew members from our other 24 hour ambulance just getting back from a call.

As I was dozing off I got awaken by the distinct sound of somebody sitting down on the leather couch right next to me. My eyes shot opened and saw nobody was sitting there. I wasn’t that sleepy and I absolutely would have heard somebody walking down the hall nonetheless come into that room. The next morning at shift change I mentioned what I experienced.

Before I could finish the 3 other paramedics said they’ve heard the same noises multiple times. My partner told me one night she had gone back out to the garage to get something she forgot in the ambulance. As she was walking across the bay she saw a back door to one of our day units swing open out of the corner of her eye. That crew had gone home hours before.

She walked over to see who was there at that time of night and found nobody. Another coworker said he was sleeping in the bunk room one night and turned over in bed. He opened his eyes and in the dark he could make out the figure of a person standing in the dark looking his way.

He grabbed his cell phone and hit the flashlight and nobody was there and his partner was sound asleep in the bunk next him. My current partner said she was sleeping on that couch I mentioned earlier and said she heard somebody sit down in the arm chair across the room which is also made of leather. My supervisor was alone in his office one day.

All the ambulances were out on calls and he heard footsteps upstairs. He went up there to see who it was and nobody was there. We hear that one a lot - the footsteps above us. Lastly, there is a sliding glass door in the kitchen that we can step out onto a balcony on the inside of the ambulance bay.

One night we weren’t tired after a call and were shooting the breeze with the other crew downstairs in the bay. We had a couple soft lights on instead of all the overheard lights. One of our medics caught a glimpse of something upstairs.

She said swore she saw a full body of a person standing in the sliding glass door looking down at us and said they were probably standing back a couple feet from it. We aren’t sure who it might be that’s haunting this station.

This station use to belong to another owner and we don’t know if anything bad happened in there before my provider moved in. I sleep on the couch in the downstairs day room now so I’m not disturbed while trying to rest.

  1. After reading your post and comments I understand where you’re coming from. I work in an oldddd hospital and I’ve seen a person but heard no footsteps in front of me.

But last night when I was the last person to leave from our department and after I shut off all the lights I heard footsteps and movement in the main kitchen so I looked at sign out sheet and had done a walk thru of the main kitchen to find no one in there.

I said out loud that’s not cool I’m going home 😂. Me and my coworkers talking in one of the dining rooms heard a mans voice a couple weeks ago no one was there.

Yesterday same thing heard a man’s voice in the dining room and I was the only one in there. As others mentioned maybe it’s someone who hasn’t realized they’ve passed or the old coworkers checking in on everything.

I had to ask a spirit in one of my kitchens I was in working alone for the day in that kitchen to be left alone.
